Il Piccolo Lago is a haute cuisine restaurant suspended in time and space.
The location alone is worth a stop. It's all in its name: Piccolo Lago, that is, Lake Mergozzo, intimate and nestled in the Ossola mountains. Its emerald green waters mirror the restaurant and its outdoor area.
The room is a welcoming "veranda" with large windows overlooking the lake and if like us you dine on a splendid October evening you will admire the stars and moon reflecting in the dark waters of the lake.
The round tables are well spaced and preserve the privacy of the diners. The mise en place is simple but refined and refined, with splendid creative ideas such as the native slate serving plate for the polenta and hay bread served on a bed of real hay from mountain pastures.
Eating here is an experience you won't forget..........It's the philosophy of Piccolo Lago: its cuisine is research.
The cuisine of starred Patron chef Marco Sacco is research, innovation, meticulous study of ingredients and combinations, experimentation, cultural contamination ........ artistic creation. As his quote on the website states: "recapture the past, shape it in the present, project it into the future."
And if you have had the pleasure of tasting the chef's cuisine from the beginning to today, you will appreciate precisely this: a path of growth, a story developed starting from a classic plot from the past which over the years is enriched and transformed by the addition of new characters and multicultural stories, never forgetting the origins and the territory with its products such as small lake fish.
If you decide to rely completely, are predisposed to experimentation and have a trained palate, let yourself be guided on a path studied down to the smallest detail even in the pairings with wines. The young and competent sommeliers and waitresses will passionately guide you through the story and will make you appreciate every flavor nuance that will explode in your mouth.
The 7-course tasting menu "A small spiral" and the 5 matching glasses of wine embraces products and traditions of the lake area and the world and upsets the traditional assumptions of the cuisine, both from a gustatory point of view (such as the "Gamberino" pre dessert , a dark chocolate with a prawn heart) and visual (like "Terra Madre", a dish to be composed with sprouts and their roots in the terroir and surgeon's tweezers to mix the vegetal and earthy taste with a fresh and explosive salad).
There are 7 courses, each extraordinary and unique in its own way, which will amaze and enrich you.
The open kitchen hosts a chef's table, an exclusive table that overlooks the kitchen and the usually hidden behind the scenes.
If you want to live a unique and 360° experience you can combine a 1-night stay on the Isola dei Pescatori on nearby Lake Maggiore in the Il Verbano hotel-restaurant owned by chef Sacco and treat yourself to a "day-long dream". You will be pampered and accompanied with "exclusive" private boat transfers and reserved taxis, a dream to give and to treat yourself.

Truly noteworthy chef table experience.
Dishes refined both in the raw materials and in their treatments. Excellent service, the chef and the whole team were very helpful and kind. We will definitely be back

Excellent in every way! We went as part of a big convention group in the evening. The service was impecable, the mood was very pleasant and the cuisine delicious! We didn't get the chance to explore how beautiful it is from the outside though. Excellent experience.

A great experience indeed. We were there on a package that included one night in their cosy hotel Verbano, on the Isola dei Pescatori on Lago Maggiore, with a magnificent view over the Isola Bella. At 7.00 PM a private taxi boat brought us to Carciano where a taxi brought us to the restaurant. My wife has celiac desease and needs gluten free options, and we really appreciated the 8 courses "Piccola Spirale" menu, standard for me and customized to my wife needs and the superb wine pairing to accompanied the various interesting and very creative dishes. Creativity sometimes could be too daring for our taste buds, but this was not the case at Piccolo Lago.
At the end of the dinner the same taxi and taxi boat brought us back to the quaint little Island. Expectations were obviously high but were meeted if not exceeded.

Di passaggio sulla riva del lago di Mergozzo in una splendida giornata abbiamo pranzato in questo ottimo ristorante gourmet. Vista lago, sottofondo musicale, tranquillità e piatti squisiti. La signora e tutto il loro personale sono gentilissimi e preparati. Un ottima scelta. Grazie
