Rosas mine (Narcao) is the second oldest mining concession in Sardinia. In ancient times the whole area was affected by mining by the Romans and then by Pisa. The Rosas mine was granted in 1851 for the exploitation of galena to the Società Anonima dell'Unione Miniere Sulcis e Sarrabus. In 1900 the mining concession was extended to zinc and copper ores. In 1930 the mining ownership passed to the Società Anonima Miniere di Rosas which also purchased the nearby concessions of Mitza Sermentus and Truba Niedda (Bega Trotta) in 1933. Mining continued until the early 1960s with the AMMI SpA company and ceased in 1979 until the definitive disavowal of the subsidy in 1984. In the Rosas mine in 1908, for the first time in the world it was discovered by prof. Domenico Lovisato rosasite, a carbonate of zinc and copper with a hydroxyl group. Rosasite takes its name from the Rosas mine; it is an identifying mineral defined as the type species of Sardinia.

Yesterday I went to the Rosas site which includes both the mine and the mineral processing room. Martina, a very kind and knowledgeable guide, welcomed us. The visit is organized in two parts. It begins with a visit to the extraction tunnel, in which all the phases starting from extraction up to processing have been explained in detail. I was also able to see the tools and understand the techniques that were used thanks to a detailed illustration. Later I visited the processing room with the machinery which is still in good condition. I compliment the organization of the site as the audio guides can also be used, which are very useful for foreign tourists. I found Martina, the guide, very competent and professional. I recommend this visit.

Rosas Mine: a journey into the past
The Rosas Mine, located in the municipality of Narcao, Sardinia, is an abandoned mining complex that has recently been renovated and opened to the public. The mine operated from 1800 to 1970 and produced primarily lead, zinc and iron.
The site is made up of a number of mining buildings and structures, including tunnels, shafts, washeries and miners' houses. The guided tour allows you to learn about the history of the mine and the living conditions of the miners, who worked in very difficult conditions.
The rooms of the Rosas Mine are a unique and evocative experience. The galleries are dark and quiet, and the visitor can feel as if they are immersed in another era. The washeries, on the other hand, are enormous concrete structures where the minerals were separated from the rock.
The miners' houses have been restored and transformed into tourist accommodation. They are small and simple, but offer an authentic experience of mining life.
The Rosas Mine is a fascinating place rich in history. The guided tour is well organized and the guide is very knowledgeable. The rooms are a memorable experience.

We visited the mine. The visit includes a 15/20 minute walk inside the gallery, then subsequently you go to the wash house that was used in the 70s and then you pay a visit to the museum. The visit inside the tunnel is short although the guide with explanations gave us a good idea of how the mineral extractions were carried out and what the miner's life was like. The museum where you can see the mineral and all the various equipment of the time is also very interesting.

Great experience, highly recommended. The guided tour begins with a short tour of the mine and continues in the washery, unique in its kind as it is in a perfect state of conservation and still functioning, finally we visit the minerals section with pieces coming both from Rosas and from other Sardinian mines and foreign. The apartment is equipped with every comfort at an affordable price, immersed in relaxing and silent nature. Thanks in particular to the restaurant dal miner for the excellent dishes prepared and for the great availability in meeting the needs of vegetarians. Highly recommended, we will definitely return

Visita guidata all'interno della miniera accompagnati da una esperta guida e da 2 simpatici cani e libera nel museo, molto interessante. Da vedere se passate nella zona di Narcao. Antico villaggio minerario ristrutturato con camere e ristoranti.
