Trattoria Vigezzina In Masera

Everything delicious, a warm and welcoming environment. A must stop at Vigezzina when you are in Ossola

I was disappointed with the Trattoria Vigezzina today. They offer a daily midday lunch menu, but today's was pretty mediocre compared to what was on offer à la carte. Usually with these restaurants, if the midday menu offering is good, then I will be happy to spend more money and visit the restaurant in the evening, when only the à la carte menu is available. But I have no incentive to do so at the Vigezzina. With the presence of the Atelier at the Hotel Eurossola and other decent restaurants in Domodossola which have decent lunchtime menu offers, I see no need to visit the Vigezzina in the future. Service was not particularly good either. If there are so many diners and the servers are run off their feet, then Vigezzina needs to hire more serving staff. Lastly it was impossible to pay with any credit card because no payment device was functioning. How can this be in a Michelin recommended restaurant, with so many visitors?

I was passing through, I went in for a quick bite to eat and honestly I hadn't noticed the Michelin awards at the entrance. Once inside, however, I understand that I am not in the classic village restaurant. The service is really well looked after, the staff are really friendly and attentive. The menu offers à la carte dishes and daily proposals and also an economical lunch menu. Honestly, I opted for the latter, mostly to understand whether even a reasonably priced menu, therefore within everyone's reach, was taken care of in terms of quality. So what about a simple plate of gnocchi with meat sauce? Well honestly, even in these dishes the quality of the materials and the mastery of the cuisine shines through. Rigorously handmade gnocchi accompanied by a truly spectacular ragù. And as an entree, a light appetizer of asparagus accompanied by a curry sauce with pineapple, which really left me amazed. Well, honestly, if they managed to conquer the palate with these dishes, I can't imagine what they are capable of doing with the rest of the proposals. Absolutely worth trying.

Parking outside and looking at the restaurant my first reaction was that we had made a mistake, completely inconspicuous and average. Upon opening the door though everything changed. It was a weekday and the place was packed, the first question from the host was if we had made a reservation! The food was exquisite to say the least, the service very good and the price even better, for a restaurant of this level. I simply can't say enough. The portions were huge, the taste amazing and the quality top. For appetizers we got the spaghetti with ragù and the dried meat with goat cheese. As a main dish got the chateaubriand for two, the meat was perfectly done and the sauce béarnaise, as well as the caramelized chestnuts were a perfect accompaniment.
