01/04/2024: Friday 8 March 2024 While I rest from the morning's efforts, I make a reservation at the last trattoria where I would like to eat: The old guard, in via della Commenda 21. From where we are it takes less than 8 minutes on foot, but with my leg I leave in time and arrive beyond the booking anyway... wow! We're inside. The entrance is narrow and opens immediately onto a small room, but we are made to sit in a much larger room, with a high ceiling, it gives me a very rationalist style, it seems to be in an old film from the 1930s, tables and chairs in wood, pastel colours, at the end the door to the bathrooms and next to it a food window that opens directly into the kitchen. The waiter, for his part, has fallen into the character of the past, with a dark apron down to his ankles. And we are in a restaurant. We order gas water and half a liter of loose house white wine, a Tuscan wine, followed by osso buco with risotto and my lady elephant's ears with potatoes. While we wait they give us an entrée: a fried ball of risotto, on vegetable cream and a sheet of spicy bread... you put the sheet in your mouth and after the second chew the spicy note arrives... nice entrée, there's no doubt about it. 'that's what I can say. The bread for the slipper is the usual loaf they give here, but there were three slices of a different one, black with dried fruit. After a while, His Majesty the òs büüs arrives, as they say here, and the Queen the cutelèta or elephant's uregia... carter-sized portions! The cutlet is more than huge, cooked perfectly and very tender, the potato sheets are fried and in their skins. My wife struggles quite a bit to get to the end and has to give up just over half, the remainder was packaged and returned with us to Modena, to be consumed a few days later. The osso bucco with the risotto... rice as usual perfect and plentiful, the meat amazing, you could smell all the aromas used for cooking. Imposing quantity with a bone about five centimeters high and a wire stuck inside, to be able to extract the marrow without difficulty. The stew was cut effortlessly with a fork, the thickness of the slice must have been at least four centimetres. I must confess that I got to the bottom with a lot of effort, I would never have believed that fat could almost knock me down, but this one sold the meat dearly, before giving in and succumbing between my jaws. My wife, the greedy one, manages to clean her mouth with the dessert, millefeuille cream and berries, which according to her is excellent. We're leaving, the bill is as important as the dishes were: €102.

02/04/2024: Cozy atmosphere and more than good service. We had lunch on Easter Monday and waited a while. I would say normal given the holiday. Very kind staff. Exquisite dishes. For me, the off-menu lamb-based dish is excellent, I think prepared for these Easter days. The crispy, non-greasy cutlet is also excellent.

06/04/2024: A beautiful establishment, careful dishes and good meats 👌 Pleasant and welcoming servers (Alessandro speaks French, that's a plus). We ordered a first bottle of wine from the region to accompany our dishes, which was pleasant. We ordered a second one... it was corked... The waitress offered to put it in a carafe but didn't change it... we accepted out of respect, without forcing, French charm... we didn't manage to drink it 🥲 no response from the service on this breach. The digestives were not offered... only small dry cakes... certainly Italian but we didn't eat them 😬 too bad, almost perfect.

31/03/2024: Good food, Good People and the restraunt cherishes the fact that it is around 150 years old, just the space was a bit crammed.

27/03/2024: Trattoria style, excellent crostini with marinated lard, chickpea farinata and slice of pizza in a pan. Not the usual pizza, but good, soft, deep with a crunchy base! Worth trying, modest prices.

02/04/2024: Very nice and charming place with impeccable service. I expected higher prices but instead they are high but within the norm. A little disappointed by the tartare, I took one that was under-seasoned but perhaps it was too much, the medium-cooked Florentine steak was good but overcooked. Gurmet pizzas cost €16 but they are giant.... it can be an alternative if there are children at the table. Excellent advice on wine. The second bottle tasted like cork but they promptly changed it for us. Recommended after all!

28/03/2024: Accurate service and a refined environment. I love their first courses, traditional yet always to be rediscovered, tasty and genuine. Edit: I add that I also tried an excellent house tiramisu and a particular buttafuoco that went very well with the pappardelle.

06/04/2024: Discovering Gambarotta is truly fortunate, as both the cuisine and service exude warmth and excellence. It's a culinary blessing. We indulged in some delectable dishes: The seafood risotto, which the owner recommended sans sauce to savor the essence of the seafood. Her suggestion was spot-on; it showcased the seafood's finest flavors. The Cotoletta, a renowned Milanese dish, was indeed a delightful traditional offering. For dessert, while the tiramisu is tempting, don't miss out on the apple cake—a warm delight paired perfectly with ice cream. It's advisable to book in advance; this charming restaurant attracts not only tourists but also locals.

31/03/2024: An Italian restaurant with a cozy, family atmosphere. Generous and delicious pizzas, cooked over a wood fire. The restaurant is quiet (the room is intimate, the decoration is simple and authentic), which is appreciated after a day of visiting Milan. We were served quickly. We will gladly come back. And a special mention for the kindness and welcome of the boss and our waitress.

04/04/2024: The environment is very nice. Classic Italian restaurant. The food is extraordinarily delicious. If you happen to be in Duomo, be sure to eat here.
