28/02/2024: Absolutely highly recommended restaurant. Today I was in a hurry and not being able to prepare dinner I thought I'd get some fried calamari to take away.. Truly exceptional, crunchy, tasty, plentiful.. Believe me... These calamari were amazing.. Plus there were also two nice slices of polenta. Super fresh fish.. and very quick preparation to take them home.. Plus they were made on the spot.. No small feat. A compliment to all the staff. If you come to Trieste you absolutely must make a stop.

29/01/2024: Returning from Slovenia I entered Trieste and right in the center (in front there is the aquarium with parking) there is this very simple trattoria. The homemade tagliolini are spectacular; not to mention the battered scampi tails where the batter was simply sublime! With wine, water and coffee I spent €28.

01/04/2024: Excellent food and characteristic atmosphere (a little kitsch, but that's the beauty of it). The only sore point: the sommelier. He tried to be nice (spoiler: he ended up being unpleasant) and listed a couple of wines 'orally' for us. He didn't let us consult the menu and didn't tell us the price of the chosen glass of wine. Overall the experience was ultra positive, the fish was very fresh and all the other waiters and the owner were impeccable.

29/03/2024: Good raw and I would say enough. The baked catch of the day with potatoes, although they had cleaned and thorned it, was full of thorns and not well cleaned. The service is not memorable and the place is a mix of ancient and... modern that leaves something to be desired.

07/04/2024: We went on Easter Sunday for a large family lunch, there were 12 of us. The service was attentive, thoughtful, kind and patient. Even though the place was full inside and out. We ate very well. The dishes prepared and presented with care. The starters are very good. The mix of fish is excellent and light! Excellent desserts. The place is clean and tidy despite limited spaces. Clean facilities!! A truly enjoyable lunch!

02/04/2024: A cozy,local restaurant with delicious Italian food-the pasta is nice,also the fish,the local wine is nice too.I recommend you make a reservation before you go.Its small and busy one.No parking around,it’s a kind in the center of the city.Staff is friendly

07/04/2024: The waiter at 10.45 said that the cafe opens at 11.00, but when there was an order for food, it was not accepted, they offered drinks, after 45 minutes at 11.30, they said that the kitchen is open from 12.00. This is an undisguised trick to lure customers.

Sublime dishes, exquisite, rich and with an artistic touch. Quiet and welcoming environment. A truly perfect dinner! The delicious tartares! The pistachio tiramisu is a must try!

04/04/2024: Had dinner on Easter Monday for two.....we didn't know the place on the seafront in Trieste and we booked following the reviews as it was indicated as a "romantic restaurant" Joia is managed by a group of young girls who express desire but still have to grow in experience to reach what the customer expects. The place is small and the tables are small and close together, therefore penalizing the mise en place which is more like a place where oriental cuisine such as sushi is served... it is a current trend that I personally don't agree with when the costs are not cheap. A piece of furniture that is perhaps a little kitsch which contributes to giving a feeling of smallness without expressing a defined entity. The service is fast and the good dishes demonstrate attention from the chef..... this is a plus The cellar is well-stocked on the card but by chance the chosen bottle of bubbles was not available and we opted for a more "normal" Franciacorta which was unfortunately served for tasting at room temperature.... the sommelier still needs to gain experience in the service. However, a place that has potential, which needs to gain experience and pay more attention to the service. Overall rating 3.5⭐
