A large café like there are in big cities, but with care, attentive service with attention to every detail, from the well-padded velvet bench seats to the well-wickerd chairs. In the beautiful Piazza del Popolo in Ascoli Piceno, next to the Palazzo dei Capitani, there is the splendid Caffè Meletti, part of the historic places of Italy. The place was inaugurated on the evening of May 18, 1907 by will of Silvio Meletti, the liqueur industrialist known for the production of Anisetta Meletti. Thanks to the engineer Enrico Cesari and the painter decorator Pio Nardini, an elegant Art Nouveau style bar was born with floral decorations and perfect original furnishings. One of the few examples in the Marche. In 1908 King Vittorio Emanuele visited there to purchase the Anisetta Meletti and decreed it "Supplier of the Royal House". Historic café that dates back to the early twentieth century. Liberty style in the period furnishings and decorations. A very suggestive atmosphere made of wooden coverings, small round marble tables and large mirrors. Something that makes you think of certain Parisian clubs. If you go on a weekday morning "out of season" be sure to come in for breakfast with a taste of times gone by. For me, diplomatic pasta is very good, giant in size and tasty.

Ci siamo fermati qui per un aperitivo ed è stata un'ottima scelta. Belli gli arredi, servizio veloce nonostante fosse affollatissimo. Posizione ottimale perché in pieno centro.

It felt like a visit to Ascoli Piceno wasn’t complete if we didn’t stop at historic Caffè Meletti. The salmon-pink cafe is located on the very popular Piazza del Popolo and has been a feature here since 1907 This is where the aromatic, aniseed liqueur, Anisetta Meletti, was first created. King Among the famous visitors are Jean-Paul Sartre and Hemingway. King Victor Emmanuel visited in 1908 and 1910 to buy Anisetta, decreeing it to be a ‘Supplier to the Royal Household’. today it’s Michelin listed. We sat at the outside tables with coffees and pastries and watched people pass by in the piazza and a wedding party gather at the palazzo next door. Inside, the styling is full of Old World charm, with polished wood panelling, plush velvet booths and potted ferns. Waiters in white shirts and bow ties man the bar and counter. Yes, it’s a bit more expensive than other places in the town but you’d expect that really and it was a fun indulgence.
