Top spot! Delicious food, friendly staff. Very refined cuisine. We ate meatballs in tomato sauce, cannelloni and cheesecake. To die for. Although located on a busy square, you are not bothered by the crowds/noise on the terrace. Recommended!

Super non-touristic restaurant in touristic spot!

We had dinner here, consisting of a plate of homemade pasta and a chicken dish. The pasta dish was very good, it included truffles and a light cream sauce. The chicken dish was good but not great. The chicken included a lot of skin and fat. The yogurt sauce with the chicken was interesting. Portions were on the small side and relatively spendy. Service was good.

Piazza Navona has always presented us with a problem. Unquestionably pretty, it looks like the perfect place to enjoy a drink or something a little more substantial. Drinks can be decent (you can’t really spoil a bottle of wine) but the food? Waiting for the owner of a rental apartment one year, we decided to risk lunch in the Piazza and the food was appalling. A couple of years later, (wanting to watch the world go by in the Piazza), we ordered a simple cheese and salami plate and a bottle of wine. OK, it wasn’t inedible but hideously expensive for a plate that – quality wise - was straight from a budget supermarket, chiller-cabinet. Imagine my surprise then, when the 2023 edition of the “Red Prawn” food guide revealed an establishment on the piazza - Camillo dal 1890. It doesn’t look like anything particularly special. Service, (while undoubtedly young and enthusiastic), was a little hit and miss but the food? Everything we tried was simply terrific. A novel way of serving Vitello Tonnato, a beautiful Beef Carpaccio and two thumbs-up from my wife for the Burrata and tomato. The Mezze Maniche Carbonara was the best I tasted all week. Authentic guanciale cooked until crisp, with a delicious, no-cream, egg-yolk sauce – delicious. Even the (ahem) less adventurous palates, enjoyed the beef Lasagne, a dish we don’t normally order it can be a little bland. The wine list was short but very well priced (even compared to lesser locations) but in Piazza Navona? An absolute steal! If these standards continue, then you will no longer need to leave the beautiful Piazza, in order to get a decent meal. You need to look no further than Camillo dal 1890. Very highly recommended.
