Da Maria In Isola del giglio

The Maria restaurant was recommended to us by a friend who has been frequenting it for some time and we must say that it was a truly excellent suggestion. We even went back again during our mini vacation. Very good fish-based dishes cooked in a simple way. Don't miss marinated anchovies and ricotta and fig cake. Nice staff and great service!!!

The Maria restaurant in the historic center of Giglio Castello, on the island of Giglio (Gr) in Tuscany....has a long-standing tradition, since 1963. It is characteristic as it is in the heart of the village, it is well furnished and has ample space and a unique sea view. Seafood cuisine... should not be prepared in a hasty and approximate manner as the result risks having unforgivable flaws... such as seafood meatballs served cold, as they are forgotten, semi-raw ravioli. A round of applause for the spaghetti alla pirate and the maltagliati, which were excellent. As well as a rabbit cooked like that of peasant grandmothers. Well done. The advice is to improve the placement of tables inside the restaurant. Such a refined environment needs round and well-spaced tables in order to guarantee respect for different conviviality. It cannot be filled with too many and poorly positioned tables because the risk of creating the "canteen" effect is certain. The only criticism....while the young male waiters and also the girl are very attentive, fast and professional, the adult and charming waitress with a strong foreign accent shows an inappropriate and disrespectful attitude towards the polite customer. Less harshness. Greater smoothness would be desirable and appreciated. Well done. Rating 7/8

Good appetizers, an off-menu excellent fascina prawns, first courses. good but without that touch of flavour, a sore point is the service, there were two of us and one, the first course was served after quite some time from the other. Good dessert, price a little high. Nothing exceptional.

Great quality of food and level of service. Portions size also ok. We will definitely go back again during our holiday. Not cheap but worth a visit.
