07/04/2024: Very good Genoese. Meatballs with sauce as they used to be made. We will definitely be back to try all the other specialties.
01/04/2024: "Peppe is my father!" (semi cit. Poverty and Nobility).
We owe a big thank you to all the staff for how they made us spend Easter Monday lunch! From the lower Bergamo area, we had never been to this place but we left full of satisfaction and happy for having felt at home.
We chose the first courses without missing a taste of Neapolitan pizza: excellent dough and cooking, recognizable quality ingredients.
The first ones chosen were the ziti with Neapolitan ragù and two Genoese mezze sleeves: again care and quality of the raw materials. Knowing these traditional recipes, I was amazed to find that the tradition was fully respected... Very abundant and full-bodied Neapolitan ragù, excellent. Genoese rich in shreds of meat, with a choice of cuts suitable for long cooking, therefore tasty and tender, perfectly cooked onions, sweet and very creamy, not at all heavy, with a notable, selected, quality grated pecorino cheese.
Followed by meatballs in sauce, chicken cutlet with broccoli and aubergine side dish, with fresh, homemade bread.
Here too, only note of merit on the care and respect for tradition and quality with an always attentive and accommodating service.
We were already pretty full and we sought the "support" of a round of limoncello which was kindly offered to us by Peppe.
Closing with a flourish with a pastiera rich in aromas, with a good mix of cooked wheat and ricotta to be fresh and not cloying.
Already fully satisfied, they surprised us with a (blind) taste of Annurca apple liqueur, inebriating and very digestive! I didn't expect it, it took me a few moments to process, but I recognized the taste of that particular apple, just as I recognized the familiar gesture of someone who cares about welcoming you and pampering you by saying: "I'll let you taste something good, something specialty", even paying homage to it.
The delicious coffee and, again, a thoughtful greeting.
I think we "immediately loved each other" and we return home full and pampered.
The excellent food and welcoming service would be enough, but we found so much more and we don't know how to thank you.
You couldn't have known it, but this lunch was my last outing before being hospitalized for a major operation and I will carry in my heart all the care and hospitality that you were able to give to perfect strangers! Thank you with all my heart!
"Peppe is my father!"
