We went on the recommendation of a taxi driver, who said that the restaurant is very popular among Romans, as it is very traditional cuisine, and not aimed at tourists. The food really is excellent. I ordered a L'Amatriciana and it was the best pasta I had in Rome. Very crispy and delicious bacon. Reservations are mandatory, as the restaurant is not very big and is always full. The day before we tried to go without a reservation and it wasn't possible, even though we arrived at opening time.

My absolute favorite dining experience in Rome, Italy. They speak Italian, the menu is in italian, and I wasn't sure what I was getting. The server directed me a bit. I was going to order just a something like Cesar salad (which I didn't really see in Italy and I don't think they had it), but I ended up with the most amazing Roman artichoke, Vignarola and the husband got Bucatini Alla Matticiana for his dish. I will come back to Rome for this experience. Valerio, I'm not sure if he'e the owner, but he feels like it. He's amazing and engaging and speaks french and italian and we were able to navigate with this.
Really, you are missing out if you don't make your way 3.5 miles from the tourist area and hit this little gem.

Classic Roman restaurant serving real food that you won't find in the more touristy places.
That said, my Bucatini Amatriciana was outstandingly good, and popular all over Rome. Chewy/soft with crispy guanciale - perfection.
Our cippolini onion starter had a crisp outside, a light creamy, cheesy sauce and was gently onion-forward. Lovely.
We didn't try the veal intestines (from milk fed cattle), the veal brain, or the other true Roman classics. Next time!
I finished with grilled lamb - crispy, gamey, and very more-ish.
This is a must try restaurant, remember to book to avoid disappointment

Roman dishes done very well; generous portions. Refined ingredients that come from selected farms.

I love this place! It feels like going back to eating at grandma's house on Sunday but in a cool environment while you chat with friends while sipping excellent wine

Good food, kind waiters and managers, too expensive to be a Roman trattoria without a tablecloth at the table.

I booked a table at two months in advance for my teen daughter and I after being impressed by this trattoria on Channel 4’s Remarkable Places to Eat. This was a special trip for the two of us and Trecca was an absolute highlight - completely living up to my high expectations. The welcome, staff, atmosphere…all great. The food was truly wonderful. After some mouthwatering starters, we both had the Bucatini all’Amatriciana. Simple, yet delicious in a way I have rarely experienced. Unfortunately we couldn’t stay for dessert….next time. I just want to go back and eat my way through the rest of the menu (and the wine list!) l. It was by far the best meal we had in Rome.

Consigliato!
