Caupona - Pompeii Restaurant In Pompei

What amazing food and friendly staff! And it was also an incredible bonus to dress up in "ancient Italian" togas to enjoy our meal in a place decorated to resemble the art of the nearby ancient ruins of Pompei. Our kids had a wonderful dining experience!

Great location and venue. Menu is a little small and portion wise you do not get a lot on your plate. Premises is very cool and there is also an option to get dressed up - staff are already dressed up to wet the mood.

We didn't expect to find such an extraordinary place here! After visiting the ruins of Pompeji we were just looking for a place to eat. This was a real surprise but the perfect addition to our day - great ambience, super friendly staff and historical food. I would always recommend this place after visiting Pompeji! But - be aware that you won't get pizza or spaghetti there! :)

A restaurant recreated in Roman times, very pleasant and with good service. I had Díana's menu (included a deer stew toast, a parsnip soup with chicken, a lamb with artichokes and a ricotta dessert) and my wife had papardele with parmigino and cod and the food was very good, The main waiter did a nice touch by bringing us a portable table to change our baby's diaper, that deserves a 10.

We came here to have late lunch after visiting the ruins. The restaurant is very well decorated, and the staff is dressed as Roman's. They have indoor and outdoor seats, service is nice, attentive but not super friendly. Food wise they do not have too many options, although the things we ordered were tasty enough, good but not the best I've had. The plates were not especially abundant though considering the high price. Overall I would've given 4 stars, however I'm giving 3 because it took them 1 whole hour to serve our dishes after ordering, it was too much.

La prossimità agli scavi è un pregio di questo ristorante, che nulla ha in comune con i ristoranti turistici e di scarsa qualità che solitamente circondano i luoghi di interesse storico-culturale. La particolarità del ristorante è la sua ambientazione, che ricrea in modo minuzioso la classica taberna e la casa pompeiana, con i suoi affreschi, il menù in legno, i bicchieri in terracotta, i camerieri vestiti con le tuniche romane. È possibile per chi vuole, indossare la tunica romana per calarsi ancora meglio. Quanto al menù, i piatti riprendono ricette pompeiane rivisitate in chiave moderna, sicuramente apprezzabile il tentativo di far riscoprire gli antichi sapori. Forse per questo, ho trovato complicati i piatti proposti e con accostamenti originali. C'è poca attenzione alle intolleranze, nel senso che non ci sono alternative ad esempio senza lattosio o senza glutine. La qualità dei prodotti è molto buona e c'è impegno da parte del personale, anche se il piatto che ho preso, il risotto, non mi ha conquistato. Per carità era buono, ma un pò troppo elaborato per i miei gusti, risultando pesante e infatti l'ho lasciato. Proporrei maggiore flessibilità nel menù. Il rapporto qualità prezzo non penso sia adeguato, nonostante il fatto che il ristorante per la sua ambientazione è molto particolare e caratteristico.

Se c'è un tipo di locale che detesto è il classico ristorante o pizzeria in prossimità del luogo turistico di interesse, ma il "Caupona", in prossimità del sito archeologico di Pompei, si colloca fuori dai consueti schemi. Il ristorante è una piccola oasi per una gradevole sosta in un bel giardino dopo la mattinata impegnativa trascorsa visitando il Parco Archeologico. Il menù, intitolato "Eros e Cibo: il menù di Afrodite", propone una sequenza di piatti antichi rivisitati secondo il gusto attuale. Ottime la tagliata di tonno, proposta come entrée, e la zuppa di cereali con ceci e calamaretti. Se si vuole indulgere ad un momento scherzoso è possibile indossare costumi del primo secolo d.c. e scattare qualche foto insieme ai componenti dello staff. Servizio curato e sorridente.
