16/03/2024: Siamo una giovane coppia in vacanza. Abbiamo scelto questo ristorante dalle foto la realtà ha superato di gran lunga le nostre aspettative. Piatti buoni, preparati con cura e amore. Servizio rapido e molto cortese. La signora Francesca,che gestisce il locale, ci ha accolti calorosamente ed è stata sempre gentile e disponibile. Un posto in cui ritornare per sentirsi a casa.

"risk", however, is that it could become a habit because you eat well, you spend the right amount, the food is plentiful, the service is fast, the 'mise en place' has a tablecloth and is clean, the management is familiar, the raw materials are local and selected, with extreme rigor, by the owner, Mr. Giancarlo. Furthermore, Mr. Giancarlo is a historical figure for the people of Spoleto, a man from other times, one of those people who are always careful to ensure that everything works well and serves the customers. But be careful! You need to book or call to find out if you can go for lunch or dinner as the place is always full, as restaurants everywhere are not for tourists, but frequented by local people and representatives who have been loyal for years, aware of quality and prices not at all expensive. If you read reviews from tourists who claim, however, that they were sent away in a bad way because there was no room or other silly complaints, such as that there is no menu card, etc., ignore them. By frequenting the Pines, we have personally ascertained that sometimes tourists arrive in groups, demanding to be able to eat and sometimes there is no time to welcome them properly since the place is crowded and perhaps there are birthdays or family celebrations taking place. When will you meet Giancarlo and the two sons, Nicola and Alfredo who together with the good Alessandro serve the customers, you will understand, therefore, that any gestures of denial made to tourists who arrived en masse at a late hour cannot have been done otherwise than by smiling, with sympathy and managing to make only a quick no from a distance, moving his finger and smiling... A very clear gestural "We're sorry" which I have seen from some negative reviews to have been interpreted, unfairly, as rudeness. As regards the Menu Card whose absence is lamented by some, however, it exists, but it is made of flesh, bones, brain and heart and is called... Giancarlo :-) The order, in fact, is always taken directly by the owner and this is part of the tradition of the place. Giancarlo approaches the table and begins to list the dishes from memory (always fresh and prepared daily) to the point that this "litany" of his has made Giancarlo one of the most characteristic and likeable Spoleto characters; to the point of being even quoted and imitated in theatrical performances. On the Internet, in social media, there is a video showing Giancarlo in action; look for it. And now: bon appetit!

30/03/2024: This restaurant is truly an institution in Spoleto. Mr. Giancarlo opened it in 1971, it is a trattoria with typical Spoleto cuisine. The raw material is of excellent quality, the portions are generous and the cost-quality ratio is excellent! Super recommended!

31/03/2024: I made a booking request as requested by their site and they redirected me to a w.app number where I asked for availability for 2 places......3 days have passed and I'm waiting for their response. NO COMMENT

03/03/2024: I had dinner here on the occasion of a birthday: the atmosphere is soft and pleasant, the mise en place designed for the occasion is gracious. Superlative dishes, nothing to complain about. The waiters are very kind. Must try again!

04/04/2024: It's a good place to have lunch. The menu is honest and average, beyond the strange and original names attributed to the dishes. Sometimes you may come across off-menu proposals with apparently simple Umbrian dishes, but which stimulate a sincere and spontaneous "Wow!"; it happened to me, for example, with an extremely unique and special Coratella!

05/04/2024: Very nice restaurant, furnished with taste and elegance. The table centerpieces are so cute 😃. The cured meats were very good, the first courses were very welcome (the strangozzi alla spoletina were sublime, the ones with truffles were also very good), the second courses were good for combinations (the spiced apple with the pork fillet was very pleasant), but the meat (even the goulash ) was not very tender. Excellent Sagrantino di Montefalco from the recommended winery and very attentive service. We will definitely be back on our next visit to Spoleto!

31/03/2024: We went to this restaurant and the atmosphere seemed very characteristic, the service was impeccable and the guy who looked after us was very professional and nice. We all had pizza which was fine and seasoned well, very good. I would go back for sure.

08/01/2024: Abbiamo cenato il 31 dicembre 2023, il proprietario è gentilissimo e disponibile alle esigenze di ognuno. Lo chef e la sua brigata ci hanno preparato una cena dove ogni ingrediente è stato valorizzato senza essere sopraffatto da eccessi . L’ambiente è confortevole e piacevole. Un’esperienza da ripetere assolutamente.

Ottima accoglienza anche da parte del personale di sala pronto a soddisfare con il sorriso ogni esigenza con piatti illustrati con passione, anche le bottiglie per i calici di vino mostrate con cura e professionalità. Tutto veramente abbondante e soddisfacente, da rimanere senza parole, piatti di ottima qualità dove il tartufo lo potete trovare ovunque. La migliore pasta al tartufo mai mangiata, con abbondante aggiunta di prezioso tubero. Ineccepibile la presentazione dei piatti, dall'antipasto al dolce. Tutto buonissimo, ci ritorneremo senz'altro! Da provare assolutamente! Ne rimarrete sicuramente contenti.

06/04/2024: “Menu a Sorpesa” is a great concept which transforms a meal into a real experience, and here it was for a very fair and decent price. We enjoyed all the dishes served. We loved the informal atmosphere as well as the unique, eclectic design. We felt right at home in this family run eating place and want to give special thanks to Filippo for his friendliness and hospitality. We highly recommend Osteria del Matto at Piazza del Mercato in Spoleto. If you can’t find it there, just ask locals as we did:)
